April 21, 2021

Albert Sims, University of Minnesota Associate Professor and former Director of Operations at the NWROC, was the recipient of the Council’s annual Outstanding Service Award. Sims was presented the award during the Council’s virtual Wild Rice Symposium in March.

Sims began his research career at the NWROC in 1995. He earned tenure and was promoted to associate professor in 2001 in the Department of Soil, Water and Climate in the University of Minnesota’s College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS). He was appointed NWROC’s Director of Operations in 2010.

Sims has been a friend of the cultivated wild rice industry for many years. His help in securing funding for fertility work and advising on fertilizer management has been most appreciated. To recognize Albert's contributions to the wild rice industry in Minnesota, the Minnesota Cultivated Wild Rice Council awarded Albert Sims with its Outstanding Service Award.
