Dairy Pasture Research Project
On July 18th a irrigated pasture research update
program featuring the research being done on the Dan and Rosy and
son Joel Middendorf dairy farm north of Verndale Minnesota will
presented starting at 10:00 am.
Directions
Go seven miles straight north of Verndale on County Road 23 and turn
east on County road 7 and go 3/4 mile. The Dairy farm is on the
north side of the road.
This is the
second year that a research project looking at the soil water
profile of a intensive rotationally grazed dairy pasture is being
researched. The economic of pasture irrigation is another portion of
the study. Jerry Wright , Margot Rudstrom, And Vince Crary of the
University of Minnesota Extension are involved with the research.
Other local
dairy producers that have irrigated pastures will be invited to talk
about their systems as well. Mark Hayek NRCS grazing specialist from
Detroit Lakes will talk about programs available to producers that
are interested in setting up a grazing system through the NRCS.
The pasture
walk will start at 10:00 AM and be completed about 2:00 PM.
This research
is funded by the Central Region Partnership and the Central
Minnesota Irrigators Corporation. A noon meal will be part of the
program.
