Polk County Soybean Variety Plot Tours

July 25     9:30AM      Rick Roed Farm N of Fosston

July 26     9:30AM      Tyler and HD Ross Farm W of Crookston

Field Days have been set for the Polk County Soybean Variety Plots and will be held on Tuesday, July 25 north of Fosston at the Rick Roed Farm and Wednesday, July 26 west of Crookston at the Tyler & HD Ross Farm. Each tour will begin at 9:30 am and conclude with a complimentary noon lunch.

There are 56 Roundup Ready varieties and 10 Conventional varieties in replicated plots which will be shown at each location. During the tour each seed company will discuss the varieties they have entered into the trials with the participating farmers. There will also be presentations by Ian MacRae on the status of soybean aphids and other pest and a soybean disease update.

Char Hollingsworth has two additional trials at the Crookston location which she will be discussing; Seed Imbibition Trial:  Seeds of 3 varieties were soaked in 45, 50, or 55oF water prior to planting.  A seed treatment was applied to half the seeds from each water treatment.  The research objective was to identify whether seed coat injury from cold water imbibition is variety specific and/or can be offset by seed treatment.  Population and Fungicide Treatment Trial: Seed treatment and soil fungicide drenches were conducted on one variety which was planted at 2 seeding populations.  The research objective was to determine root health and yield differences resulting from seed and/or fungicide treatments.

Also at the Crookston site Russ Severson will discuss the Planting Date and Relative Maturity Trial he is conducting with three varieties planted at eight different dates.
