Soybean Aphid Speed Scouting
Soybean aphids have been found in the region since early June, fortunately at below threshold levels. As soybeans begin flowering, it is time to think in earnest about monitoring fields, particularly those at greatest risk. A field scouting method for making soybean aphid treatment decisions was introduced in 2004. The procedure is referred to as “Speed Scouting”.

Preparation of Grain Bins and Planning for Long Term Storage
The small grain crop has headed and thoughts will soon turn to preparing for combining the crop. Planning for harvest should include preparation of storage structures to receive grain. Preparation includes several practices that aide in preventing insect infestations from developing within our storage structures. The S.L.A.M. post-harvest Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy is a systems approach to maximize grain quality.

Plants Poisonous to Livestock
Recognition of poisonous plants and the proper management of animals and pastures will help to minimize the potential for poisoning animals from poisonous plants. When an animal goes off feed, loses weight or appears unhealthy, poisonous plants may be the cause.
