Annual Grass Seed Plot Tour near Roseau

                Wednesday                June 29                 4:30 p.m

The annual Grass Seed Plot Tour will take place near and at the Magnusson research site northwest of Roseau on Wednesday June 29 starting at 4:30 p.m. From the Cenex C Store in Roseau, at the junction of highway 11 and highway 89, go north 2 miles on highway 310. Turn left (west) on county road 16 and travel 3.5 miles, the Research Building is on the north side of the road.

The first stop of the tour will be 1/2 mile east of the research farm, on the Rice farm. The researchers will show a Palisade timing x fertility x fungicide trial on perennial ryegrass. There is also another trial at the same location that has Palisade at 2 different dates and different rates and the growth regulators Apogee and Cerone are included in experiments.

The main tour at the research farm will start at 5 p.m. Professor Nancy Ehlke, Plant Breeder for the University of Minnesota will discuss University research on Palisade and fertility, wild oat control in established grass fields, and also the sterile seedbed study for establishing the new Kentucky bluegrass varieties. There will be variety plots of ryegrass, Birdsfoot trefoil, and kura clover.

Professor Don Wyse, U of MN Weed Scientist, will discuss research on Off-Type Management of Kentucky Bluegrass.
 
Cenex West Plant of Roseau will grill dinner after the tour. The tour is sponsored by the Northern Minnesota Forage and Turf Seed Advisory Committee and the University of Minnesota Extension Service. The following are the experiments at the research site and stops will be made at most of the trials at the farm.

  6. Bluegrass tolerance to Everest under seeded in spring wheat
  7. Intensive management on perennial ryegrass (growth regulator. + fungicides)-2005
  8. Callisto applied to perennial ryegrass for broadleaf weed control-2005
  9. 2002 bluegrass variety trial
  10. 2002 reed canarygrass variety trial
  11. 2005 wild oat control in wheat with under seeded grass spp.
  12. Quackgrass management in perennial ryegrass-2005-6
  13. 2005-7 off-type bluegrass control in spring wheat under seeded with elite type Kentucky bluegrass using dry forms of pre-emergent herbicides
  14. 2004-6 tolerance of native grass and legume species to seeding year and first seed production year applied herbicides
  15. 2004 perennial ryegrass variety trial
